Saori style textured, decorative hand woven scarf, which can also be used as a table runner or hung up as a piece of art, inspired by the colours and textures of the Donegal landscape.
Hand woven on a rigid heddle loom using my own hand spun wool yarns and a variety of other yarns including hand dyed merino wool.It has excellent drape and is finished with a loosely tied fringe edging, which can be trimmed if you prefer a more uniform look. After weaving the scarf has been washed in warm water which lightly felts the fibres together for added stability, some of the ends have been left for surface decoration and are an integral part of the design, but again can be carefully snipped off if you prefer without affecting the integrity of the scarf.
SAORI Philosophy
Consider the differences between a machine and human being.
SAORI inspires people to do what only a human being can but a machine cannot—to exist, think and express freely. It may seem obvious, but we tend to forget how unique we are as individuals, and consciously or subconsciously we accept learned notions of beauty and ‘perfection’ often valued and taught by society. However, as human beings, we have the ability to be truly spontaneous and original, not constrained by predetermined rules or expectations. In each moment we weave, in each moment we share together, we can realize and express the creative spirit that makes us human. Uneven fringe, skipped or missing threads, irregular cloth edges, seemingly ‘mismatched’ colours – we do not see these as ‘mistakes’ but rather markers of our humanness.
The warp (lengthways) is black 100% wool
The weft (across) is hand spun merino wool, hand dyed merino, Donegal tweed wool, cashmere and silk, textured yarns
A hand woven wool scarf is both light and warm without being bulky and with regular wear it will soften, it should be hand washed gently in cool water and hung to dry.
