The approximate circumference of this neck warmer is 46 cm / 18″.
Eco printed medium weight habotai 8 silk neck warmer that fastens with a couple of elastic loops and handmade silk flower buttons. The inside is a lightweight ponge 5 silk that has been dyed with a solution of weld. There is a cotton interlining. When open the size is 16 x 49 cm and the approximate circumference when fastened is 46 cm. Steely colours of slate, charcoal, mauve, navy and sand. The print is beautiful and the small creases, created during the process have become part of its charm and individuality.
The pattern has been created using an eco-printing process. In this natural dyeing technique leaves and flowers from my garden are prepared with natural elements (iron, aluminium, copper) as a mordant and are tightly bundled with the fabric. The bundle is then steamed which allows the dyes to transfer and create a permanent imprint. The silk is then washed and ironed. Through normal use/wear the print seems fairly stable, I have noticed no change in a scarf I wear constantly that has been washed quite a few times.
Tiny pleats formed during the process are set into the fabric together with the colours resulting in a piece with totally unique qualities. I don’t attempt to press all the creases out.
Care of silk: if necessary, hand wash in cold water, cool iron while still slightly damp to restore the lustre.
Silk is a luxurious natural fabric; it is delicate and yet extremely strong and with proper care and use it should last for generations. A treasured silk scarf could become an heirloom piece.
Scarves are carefully package in tissue, with a small lavender sachet and care instructions, all tied with a fabric ribbon. They come in a cardboard mailing box.
I have tried my best to represent the colours accurately, but of course monitors will differ.
